HUTCHINSON, Kan. — After gaining some traction in getting empty spaces filled, Uptown Hutch is losing a store. Christopher & Banks, which just opened at the mall last spring, is closing down for good along with most, if not all, of its stores.
The Minneapolis-based company announced last week it filed for Chapter 11 in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey.
Store closing sales have begun at all Christopher & Banks stores nationwide with discounts 40% to 60% off the original prices. The company says it hopes to find a buyer for online business and related assets.
Christopher & Banks had two stores at Uptown Hutch before closing down both of them in 2013. Then in January of 2020, the store chain announced it was coming back to the mall with one store.
The business opened just as the pandemic ratcheted up, forcing stores to close.
