Former NASCAR driver Ken Schrader thrilled a crowd of more than 2,500 fans Friday night by winning the IMCA Modified feature at the Kansas State Fairgrounds racetrack. Schrader took the checkered flag ahead of William Nusser of Larned and Jake Nightingale of Hutchinson, who rounded out the top three.

In other feature races, Mike Petersilie of Hoisington captured the IMCA Stock Car win, with Hutchinson’s Scott Miller finishing second and Brandon Massey of Valley Center taking third.

Wichita’s Jeremy Campbell claimed victory in the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars, edging out Jordan Knight of Wright and Brian Herbert of Kinsley. In the IMCA Northern SportMods class, Salina’s Warren Huffman took the win, followed by Kely Weins of Newton and Stacey Huffman, also from Salina.

Fans will have another chance to meet Schrader on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the soft opening of 25 Steak & Social, located at 25 East 30th Avenue in Hutchinson. A $5 donation at the event will benefit the Cancer Council of Reno County and includes a pulled pork sandwich, chips, and drink.

Racing continues Saturday night with a packed schedule featuring the 100-lap Silver Crown main event, sprint car races, and additional IMCA Modified features. Gates open at 5 p.m. with races set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
