Suspect admits to scam involving elderly Kansas man

JEWELL COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a 6-month old scam and have prosecuted one suspect.

On May 15, 2020, the Jewell County Sheriff's Office learned of of alleged scam in which three Nebraska men went to an elderly man's home in Randall, Kansas and convinced him to pay more than $18,000 for lightning protection services, according to a social media report from Jewell County Sheriff.

 Investigators determined that 57-year-old Arthur Snook of Grand Island, Neb., was one of the men involved in the incident and he was taken into custody without incident.

On February 5, Snook pleaded no contest to two counts of felony conspiracy to commit mistreatment of a dependent adult and two counts of felony conspiracy to commit theft by deception, according to the sheriff's department.
