Hutchinson Community College football players Derrick Salley Jr. and Teegan Haines were named the KJCCC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, on Tuesday after both played huge roles in the Blue Dragons' 30-27 victory over Iowa Western on Saturday at Gowans Stadium.

OFFENSE: Receiver Derrick Salley Jr.

Salley, a 6-foot-5, 216-pound sophomore receiver from Green Pond, South Carolina, posted his first 100-yard receiving game and caught what became the game-winning touchdown with 1:01 remaining in the fourth quarter to lift top-ranked Hutchinson.

Salley caught four balls for 106 yards against the Reivers.

Hauling in a long reception of 52 yards to get the Dragons out of a deep hole, Salley then caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Christian Johnson in the right corner of the end zone on third down to give the Dragons a 30-27 lead with 1:01 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Through two games, Salley has seven receptions for a team-high 180 yards and four touchdowns.

This is Salley's first career conference player of the week award.

DEFENSE: Linebacker Teegan Haines

Haines, a 6-3, 209-pound linebacker from McPherson, had a career-high 12 tackles to lead Hutchinson's defense against the Reivers on Saturday.

Haines had five unassisted tackles while adding 2.5 tackles for loss to lead the Blue Dragons.

The sophomore had key fourth-quarter stops during two big defensive stops that ultimately led to the Blue Dragons' game-winning touchdown drive with 2:20 remaining in the fourth quarter.

This is Haines' first conference player of the week award.
