HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson City Planning Commission plans to take up a small matter on Tuesday, changing the regulations in the City's R-5 housing districts to allow a second smaller dwelling unit on the same parcel that has a single-family house.
"An R-5 district is typically for multi-family, so it would be apartments, duplexes, triplexes, those type of things," said Ryan Hvitlok wiht the City. "We also do have some single-family homes that are within that zoning district as well. They came in, and they're like, hey, I want to put this in and we said unfortunately, the zoning doesn't allow for it. We looked a little closer and we realized that we believe it was probably just an oversight."
There are several areas of R-5 zoning in Hutchinson.
"You're going to see those mostly near our apartment complexes," Hvitlok said. "We also have some off of 23rd, where it's near some assisted living and things along those lines."
The Planning Commission meeting is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom.
