KANSAS CITY, Mo. â Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is expected to receive a six-game suspension from the NFL for his involvement in a 2024 high-speed crash, according to multiple reports.
ESPNâs Adam Schefter reported Tuesday that the league plans to discipline Rice for violating its personal conduct policy, with the suspension beginning at the start of the regular season.
Earlier this month, Rice was believed to be facing a Sept. 30 disciplinary hearing, leading insiders to speculate his punishment might not take effect until after that date. Schefterâs latest report raises questions about whether the timeline has been moved up.
If the six-game suspension holds, Rice would return Oct. 19 in Week 7, when the Chiefs host the Las Vegas Raiders at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
Rice was arrested in connection with a crash in which he was allegedly driving 119 mph while racing another vehicle. Multiple people were injured, but no fatalities were reported. He later posted bond.
The league held off on discipline until the legal process concluded. Rice pleaded guilty to two felony charges in July, clearing the way for the NFL to issue its ruling. Reports indicated the league initially considered a longer suspension that could have stretched into double-digit games.
