WICHITA, Kan. — Northbound Interstate 135 in Wichita has reopened to limited traffic following a train derailment that damaged a bridge over a rail yard, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.
Traffic is currently restricted to the inside left lane just past the northbound I-135 to eastbound K-96 ramp while KDOT bridge inspectors continue evaluating the structure.
Officials said two columns supporting the bridge were damaged in the derailment. Crews remain on site assessing the extent of the damage and determining what repairs will be necessary.
A timeline for fully reopening the bridge has not been announced.
Motorists traveling through the area should expect lane restrictions and possible delays as inspections and repair planning continue.
