Hutchinson man sentenced for May stabbing

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 26-year-old Hutchinson man was sentenced to 632 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections on Friday in Reno County District Court. 

Briantey L. Baskin was sentenced to 620 months for attempted murder in the first degree, 41 months for aggravated battery, 12 months for aggravated assault and six months for criminal threat.

The attempted murder and battery charges will be served concurrently, while the assault and criminal threat charges will be served consecutively.

Baskin pleaded guilty on Aug. 15 to all four charges.

Baskin was arrested on May 9 after stabbing a man near First Avenue and Main Street in Hutchinson.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Police made an arrest connected to a disturbance Thursday morning.

According to a release from Capt. Dayton Gates, at approximately 8:33 a.m., officers were dispatched to First Avenue and Main Street for a disturbance. When officers arrived on the scene, they located a male victim with a laceration to his body. Another victim reported a male threatening him with a knife during the same incident.

The injured victim was transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for treatment. He is currently in stable condition. Briantey L. Baskin, 26-year-old male of Hutchinson, was arrested for attempted murder in the first degree and aggravated assault.
