Students in Reno County can get ready for the new school year with a free haircut during a community event hosted by Hutchinson Community College's Cosmetology & Barber program.
The free event will take place Monday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at HutchCC Cosmetology & Barber, 200 E. 3rd Ave. in Hutchinson.
The program is open to students entering Pre-K through 12th grade. Haircuts will be provided at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis, and no appointments are required. Organizers note that all haircuts must begin by 2 p.m.
The annual event is a partnership between HutchCC Cosmetology & Barber and local cosmetologists and barbers who volunteer their time alongside HutchCC students and instructors.
Organizers say the goal is to help students head back to school looking and feeling their best while easing the financial burden on families preparing for the new school year.
Families are encouraged to arrive early, as demand is expected to be high and services will be available only while volunteer barbers and stylists are available.
