Kan. teen accused of setting trash can on fire at high school

RILEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a case of alleged arson and have made an arrest.

Just after 2:30p.m. Thursday, officers filed a report for aggravated arson in the 2100 block of Poyntz Avenue in Manhattan, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.

 Manhattan High West USD 383 and a 49-year-old school district staff member reported a 17-year-old boy lit a trash can on fire in the building during the school day.

No injuries were reported. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $50.00.

Police arrested Ryan Joshua Tierney, 17, of Manhattan on a requested charge of aggravated arson and transported him to the Geary County Juvenile Detention Center.
