🏀 Blue Dragons pick up road win over Pirates

INDEPENDENCE, Kan. — The No. 1 Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team saw 11 different players score in a 66-34 win over Independence on Saturday afternoon inside the FirstOak Bank Oakes Family Fieldhouse.

Hailey Jackson led the Blue Dragons with 12 points and seven rebounds in 19 minutes of play, while Katie Duncan notched her second consecutive double-figure point game with 11.

The Blue Dragons are now 10-0 overall, 4-0 in the Jayhawk Conference.

Independence (1-8, 0-3) had six players suited up, but only five played, playing all 40 minutes. The Pirates were led by Asmin Tanhan with 15 points.

The Blue Dragons struggled to shoot the ball, finishing 39% from the floor, while going 4 for 24 from beyond the 3-point line. Hutchinson committed just nine turnovers, while Independence committed 27, which resulted in 23 Blue Dragon points.

HutchCC held a 35-point lead late in the fourth quarter, the largest of the game. Independence never held a lead in the loss. 

The Blue Dragons are back at home on Wednesday to host Coffeyville (8-0, 3-0) inside of the Sports Arena. The Red Ravens had a bye on Saturday, and will come into Wednesday's game after a week off. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and will be broadcasted on KHUT-FM (102.9) and KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) with pregame coverage starting at 5:15 p.m.
