Hutchinson woman hospitalized after SUV, semi crash has died

RENO COUNTY, Kan. — A Hutchinson woman has died following a crash Monday afternoon along K-96 south of South Hutchinson.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m. at K-96 and Trail West Road, about three miles south of South Hutchinson.

Troopers reported a 2019 Dodge Durango driven by 19-year-old Nathan Christopher Pfannenstiel of Hutchinson was traveling northwest on K-96 approaching Trail West Road when the vehicle veered onto the right shoulder and struck a legally parked 1999 Freightliner semi.

A passenger in the SUV, 19-year-old Baylee Marie Flynn of Hutchinson, suffered serious injuries in the crash and was transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, where she later died from her injuries.

Pfannenstiel was reported to have sustained suspected minor injuries. The Kansas Highway Patrol said both occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The semi sustained damage in the collision. Both vehicles were removed from the scene by J Seven Auto.

The crash remains under investigation by the Kansas Highway Patrol.
