MANHATTAN — The Kansas Department of Agriculture has recently updated its interactive map of Kansas, showing the economic contribution of agriculture across the state.

The Reno County numbers released earlier this month are as follows:

Number of Farms: 1,552

Average Farm Size: 508 acres

Land in Farms: 788,966 acres

Average Value of Products Sold Per Farm: $139,645

Average Net Cash Farm Income Per Farm: $25,567

In this model, the 37 agriculture and agriculture-related sectors have a total direct output of $1.34 billion and account for 3,793 jobs in Reno County.

Once you add in the indirect and induced effects, the impact number increases to $1.67 billion in output. These sectors also support a total of 5,955 jobs, or 16% of the county’s entire workforce.

To find out the top ten sectors by output, you can go to the Kansas Department of Agriculture's website.
