Gary James Barber, 82, of Hutchinson, died March 15, 2022, at Pleasant Hills of Hutchinson. He was born June 14, 1939, in Des Moines, IA, to James and Alice (Murray) Barber.
Gary graduated from Rancho High School in Las Vegas, NV, in 1957 and the University of Nevada Las Vegas in 1968. He served in the United States Army from 1962-1964. Gary worked as an accountant in Las Vegas and Hutchinson. He enjoyed drawing cartoons and had several published. Gary loved baseball, especially the Royals and Yankees. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.
On May 13, 1989, Gary married Jennifer N. “Jennie” (Fuller) Snell, in Hutchinson. She survives.
Also surviving are: son, Steven Barber of Hutchinson; stepdaughters, Jeanine Brannan (Richard) of Erie, Bonnie Westfahl (Charles) of Hutchinson, Theresa Faulkner (Matthew) of Kansas City, MO, stepson, Jeffrey Snell (Karna) of Buhler; grandchildren, Joshua and Jarrin Barber; great-grandson, Aiden Barber; 10 step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and sister, Sharon Barber (Robert Snider) of Mesa, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepson, James Snell.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Grace Episcopal Church, 2 Hyde Park Dr., with the Reverend Dr. J. Ted Blakley officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the church’s Facebook page.
Friends may sign the memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Friday until the day of the service at Elliott Mortuary.
