John Floyd Compton, 71, of Hutchinson, died October 21, 2020, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born February 15, 1949, in Russell, to Delbert J. and Geneva E. (Schwab) Compton.

John graduated from high school in Ajo, AZ, in 1967 and from State University of New York in 1972. He was an officer at Hutchinson Correctional Facility for over 30 years, retiring in 2010.

John loved football, especially the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Washington Football Team. He also enjoyed playing bridge in the Duplicate Bridge Club, Hutchinson. But most of all, John loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

On July 30, 1980, he married Patricia D. ‘Patty’ Kim in Hutchinson. They celebrated 40 years of marriage. She survives.

Also surviving are sons, James and wife Lindsey of Tulsa, OK, and John and wife Rachel of Greeley, CO; grandchildren, Mason, Iyla, Hadley, Willa, and Edith; and brother, William ‘Bill’ Compton of Binghamton, NY.

John was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 26, 2020, at Elliott Chapel. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at La Crosse Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1-8 p.m., with the family present to receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
