HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County Administrator Randy Partington noted that with the population changes in Reno County, no matter how the county is split into commission districts, it will need to change again based on those new numbers.

"With the census, with the change in population of precincts, there will be some modification," Partington said. "Whether this passes or not, even the current three commissioner district map will change."

With that in mind, when voters make a decision on whether or not to expand, the question should be if they think more people would be better or not.

"Going from three to five commissioners really isn't as much about districts as overall representation of the county," Partington said. "Having five board members and having discussions about their constituents and the people they know, versus having just three commissioners."

The ballot question is on in November, but new maps will be drawn because of reapportionment in January no matter which way the vote goes.
