Jacob "Jake" Warren Hamm, 98, passed away February 16, 2022 at his home. He was born July 7, 1923, in rural Pratt County to Jacob William and Zola (Megaffin) Hamm. Warren married Helen Sleeper on July 2, 1944, at the Isabel Church of Christ. They were married 71 years.
Warren graduated from Isabel High School in 1941. He graduated from the Coyne Electrical School in Chicago in Electricity in March 1942., and later, a diploma in Radio. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in Feb, 1943.He received his Advanced Single Engine Pilot School Diploma in June, 1944,and was a Pilot instructor during WW2 on the AT-6. He was honorably discharged Oct. 1945. He was recalled during the Korean conflict, and served from Jan. 1951-July 1952, again as a Pilot instructor, this time on the P-52 Mustang. He worked for Boeing for 20 years, returning to the Pratt/Isabel area in Feb. 1970 from Seattle.
After returning, he continued to do electrical work for individuals, and a variety of other jobs. He had a gift for anything mechanical.and could fix anything, including rebuilding several old tractors. He loved nature, especially his bluebirds, and enjoyed watching the eggs hatch and the little birds grow to maturity. He was a member of the Isabel Church of Christ, loved the Lord, his wife Helen, and his family. Helen was the love of his life and life was never the same for him after her death March, 2016. He was a wonderful example to all of what a good Christian man looks like! He will be sorely missed.
Warren is survived by sons: David (Rose) Hamm, Wichita; Larry (Linda) Hamm, Pratt, Daughter-in-law Candace Hamm, Colorado Springs, and brother Lee Hamm, Pratt., 13 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 21 great, great grandchildren plus many more family and friends.
Warren was preceded in death by parents; wife, Helen; sons Jerry Gene and Alan, daughter Cheryl Ann.
Memorial service will be March 7, 2022, at 10 a.m. at the Isabel Church of Christ with John Hamm and the family officiating. Interment will follow in the Isabel cemetery.
