The No. 21-ranked Hutchinson Community College baseball team scored nine runs in its first three innings and used that strong start against the Highland Scotties to roll to 6-0 to start the season on Monday afternoon at Hobart-Detter Field.
<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/allen_griffin_bmj4">Nick Glantz</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/fegen_scotty_n1yk">Scotty Fegen</a>&nbsp;had two RBIs each and four Blue Dragon pitchers combined for nine strikeouts as Hutchinson defeated Highland 10-5.
The Blue Dragons improved to 6-0 for the second-straight season. Highland lost its eighth game in a row and is now 1-9. Earlier in the day, Highland lost to Des Moines Area 4-0.
Hutchinson immediately jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Glantz hit a two-run double to right field, Jarrett Herman had an RBI groundout and Eli Duncan hit an RBI double for a 4-0 lead.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/mazza_antony_9347">Anthony Mazza</a>&nbsp;scored an unearned run in the second on a passed ball for a 5-1 lead.
The Dragons struck for four more runs in the third. Fegen delivered a two-run double to score Herman and Duncan.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/griffin_leo_z3t1">Leo Griffin</a>&nbsp;scored on a throwing errors on Fegen's hit. Fegen scored on a wild pitch to give the Dragons a 9-1 lead.
Mazza had his fifth multi-hit game in six games to start the season going 3 for 4 with three singles and two runs scored to lead the Blue Dragons.
Glantz went 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and a stolen base. Fegen was 2 for 3 with a run and two RBIs.
The Blue Dragons had 10 hits, reaching double figures in hits for the fourth time in six games.
The Dragons used four pitchers against the Scotties.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/ainsworth_seth_huwf">Seth Ainsworth</a>&nbsp;(1-0) was the winning pitcher with four strikeouts in two innings of relief. Ainsworth allowed two hits and one run.
<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/wolcott_jake_0h6q">Jake Wolcott</a>&nbsp;started and worked the first three innings, allowing one run and two hits. Highland had Wolcott on the ropes in the third inning with two runners on with two out, Fegen got the Blue Dragons out of the inning with a spectacular running, over-the-shoulder catch running toward the center-field fence for the final out of the inning.
<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/phillips_brandt_fntp">Brandt Phillips</a>&nbsp;made his Blue Dragon debut and struck out the three batters he faced.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/pasteur_beau_5exl">Beau Pasteur</a>&nbsp;worked the seventh for the Dragons.
Isaiah White and Blaine Young had two hits each to lead Highland's nine-hit attack.</div>
