Police: Man wanted for alleged kidnapping dies in Kan. officer shooting

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal officer involved shooting.

Just after 1:30a.m. Wednesday, police responded to report of a shooting in the the 500 block of N. Milstead in Wichita, according to Officer Chad Ditch.

At the scene, officers located a woman and child in front of the residence. The victims told police a 39-year-old suspect, who police later learned had active warrant for aggravated kidnapping, was inside the residence.

The suspect pointed a firearm and shot at the victims, according to Ditch. At one point, officers  witnessed the suspect go back into the house carrying a gun.

The victims also told police there were two other victims inside the home. Those victims left the home a short time later. The Wichita Police SWAT and SWAT negotiators responded to the home.

Just after 10:30 a.m., the SWAT team entered the home and there was an exchange gunfire, according to Ditch.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. None of the other victims or officers were injured. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the investigation, according to Ditch. Police have not released the name of the suspect.
