KINGMAN — Brice Wallar turned in a perfect night at the plate, collecting four hits and driving the offensive surge as the Hutchinson Monarchs rolled past the Kingman Islanders 12-2 Wednesday night at Riverside Park in Kingman.

Wallar went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two singles, helping the Monarchs improve their strong start to the season with another convincing road victory.

The Monarchs broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning when Jackson Schanuel singled to center field to drive in a run. Wallar followed with an RBI double to left, and Michael Barham added an RBI double down the left-field line as Hutchinson built a 3-0 advantage.

After extending the lead in the fifth inning, Hutchinson put the game out of reach with a six-run sixth inning. JJ Spafford highlighted the rally with a two-run double. Wes Baker, Marcus Gradney, Wallar and Barham each added RBI doubles during the inning as the Monarchs piled up six hits in the frame.

Hutchinson finished with 14 hits on the night. Wallar led the way, while Gradney, Baker, Schanuel and Barham each recorded multiple-hit performances. The Monarchs were also aggressive on the bases, swiping four stolen bases.

Kevyn Velazco earned the victory on the mound for Hutchinson. The starter allowed two runs on five hits over four innings while walking two. Drew Dechant was dominant in relief, tossing three scoreless innings and allowing just one hit while striking out five without issuing a walk.

Kingman starter Jack Scheiner worked 4 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out one and walking two.

Mak Lerma drove in a run for the Islanders, while Karston Wall led Kingman with two hits. The Islanders turned one double play defensively.

The Monarchs return to action Friday when they travel to face the Kansas Cannons.
