KIOWA COUNTY—A Hutchinson man died in an accident just before 7 p.m. Tuesday in Kiowa County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1998 Chevy Astro van driven by 75-year-old Joaquin Vatierra-Serran of Hutchinson, was eastbound on U.S. 54 four miles west of Haviland when the van crossed the center line and&nbsp;collided head-on with a westbound 2017 Freightliner semi driven by 29-year-old Christian&nbsp;Gayles of Chicago, Illinois.

Vatierra-Serran was transported to&nbsp;Western Plains Hospital where he died. Gayles and a passenger in the semi were not injured. All three were properly restrained a the time of the accident, according to the KHP.
