Overnight fire destroys house south of Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A two-story brick home was destroyed early Tuesday morning in a fire along South K-14 Highway in Reno County, authorities said.

Reno County Fire Districts 8, 9 and Pretty Prairie Fire were dispatched at 12:58 a.m. to the 8800 block of South K-14, where the house was reported fully engulfed in flames. The response was quickly upgraded, with additional crews from Fire Districts 3, 4, 6 and the Hutchinson Fire Department called to assist.

Reno County EMS provided firefighter rehabilitation on scene. The Reno County Sheriff’s Office, South Hutchinson Police Department and the Kansas Department of Transportation assisted with traffic control, closing K-14 for several hours to allow for a water shuttle operation.

No injuries were reported. The home was a total loss.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
