ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos insist they're not looking back at their long losing streak to the Kansas City Chiefs, who have beaten them 15 consecutives times dating back to 2015. But safety Justin Simmons did allow himself to ponder what it would be like to finally beat Kansas City. He said it would be huge, not so much to end the losing streak but to give the Broncos a boost after their 1-4 start. New head coach Sean Payton has lost all three of his home games to underdog opponents. After visiting Kansas City on Thursday night, the Broncos host the Packers next week and then face the Chiefs again on Oct. 29.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Travis Kelce is expected to be available when the Chiefs play the Broncos on Thursday night, despite hurting his ankle when he slipped on the turf in last weekend’s win over the Minnesota Vikings. The All-Pro tight end was listed as “did not practice” on the injury report Monday, which was an estimation of the work players would do had the Chiefs practiced. But he went through a walk-through Tuesday without any problems and coach Andy Reid was optimistic that he will be on the field for the AFC West matchup despite the short turnaround time.

UNDATED (AP) — Oklahoma is already piling up plenty of accolades in its final Big 12 season. A year after their first losing season since 1998, the 6-0 Sooners are the league’s only undefeated team. Oklahoma also has the top coach, top offensive player and best defensive player so far this season. A midseason vote of Associated Press writers who cover the league tabbed second-year Sooners coach Brent Venables, quarterback Dillon Gabriel, linebacker Danny Stutsman and first-year freshman safety Peyton Bowen as the best so far this season. The Sooners and Texas are moving to the Southeastern Conference next year.

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma wide receiver Andrel Anthony will have season-ending surgery after suffering a leg injury against Texas. The transfer from Michigan led the fifth-ranked Sooners with 429 yards receiving through six games. Although Anthony was a stabilizer, receiver might be the team’s deepest position. Jalil Farooq has 415 yards and Drake Stoops leads the team with 29 catches. Freshman Nic Anderson leads the team with six touchdown receptions, including the game winner against Texas. Jayden Gibson averages 26.5 yards on six catches.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — TCU quarterback Chandler Morris has a sprained MCL in his left knee and likely will miss multiple games. Horned Frogs coach Sonny Dykes on Tuesday described the injury as a week-to-week issue. It's the same injury that Morris suffered in the 2022 season opener, when he was out for about a month. By time he was healthy enough to play again, Max Duggan already had re-established himself as TCU's starter and was the Heisman Trophy runner-up after an undefeated regular season. Morris got hurt in a loss Saturday night at Iowa State. Josh Hoover took over then and is expected to start this weekend against BYU.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Corey Seager and Adolis García homered early, Nathan Eovaldi pitched seven smooth innings in another playoff clincher and the Texas Rangers completed an AL Division Series sweep of the Baltimore Orioles with a 7-1 victory in Game 3. The wild-card Rangers have won all five of their postseason games and are headed to the American League Championship Series for the first time since 2011. AL East champ Baltimore won an AL-high 101 games and was never swept in a series during the regular season. Nathaniel Lowe also homered for Texas, which is taking three-time World Series champion manager Bruce Bochy to his first ALCS.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — José Abreu hit a three-run homer for Houston in a four-run first inning against Sonny Gray and piled on with a two-run shot in the ninth to power the Astros past the Minnesota Twins 9-1. Houston leads the AL Division Series 2-1. Yordan Alvarez hit his fourth home run in three games and Alex Bregman had a homer and an RBI single for the defending World Series champions. The Astros moved within one win of a seventh consecutive appearance in the AL Championship Series. Cristian Javier had nine strikeouts in five scoreless innings. Game 4 is Wednesday at Target Field.

PHOENIX (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers cobbled together a 100-win regular season against the odds, using a strong offense to compensate for a beat-up starting rotation. Time is running out for that formula to produce even one postseason win. The Dodgers are down to their last chance in Game 3 of the National League Division Series, facing a 2-0 deficit against the Arizona Diamondbacks when the series continues on Wednesday night. Much has been made of L.A.‘s bad starting pitching in the first two games, but it’s also been true that the Dodgers’ vaunted offense hasn’t been doing much. Mookie Betts is 0 for 7 over the first two games while Max Muncy is 1 for 7 and Freddie Freeman is 1 for 6.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies are tied 1-1 in the National League Division Series. The Phillies will start right-hander Aaron Nola in Game 3 on Wednesday in Philadelphia. The Braves have not yet named a starting pitcher. The Phillies are trying to regroup after an epic Game 2 meltdown in a loss to the Braves. Travis d’Arnaud and Austin Riley each hit a two-run homer, and a game-ending double play for the ages wrapped things up for the Braves. A great catch by Michael Harris II and an alert backup and throw by Riley ended the game on a double play.

UNDATED (AP) — Olympic gymnastics champion Mary Lou Retton has pneumonia and is in intensive care in a Texas hospital. Retton’s daughter, McKenna Kelley, shared Retton’s condition in an Instagram post. Kelley said the 55-year-old Retton, who became the first American woman to win the Olympic all-around title, is “fighting for her life” and not able to breathe on her own. Kelley started a fundraising campaign on Retton’s behalf for medical expenses. Kelley wrote that Retton does not currently have medical insurance.
