Melvin Mast, 88, passed away October 8, 2020, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.
He was born August 1, 1932 to Roman and Anna (Bontrager) Mast at Hutchinson, Kansas. He lived with his parents until he moved to Golden City, Missouri to live with his sister, Emma and John Byler for 19 years. He moved with them to Oroville, California in 2008.
After the death of Emma, he was moved to Mennonite Friendship Communities where he spent the last 20 months, enjoying sleeping late and taking plenty of time with his meals. Chapel singing and working Printer’s pies were some of his favorites. He was a member of the Amish Church.
Survivors include his brother, Eli (Lydia) Mast of Ronks, Pennsylvania; sister, Fannie Otto of Arthur, Illinois; and brother-in-law, John Byler of Oroville, California.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Roman and Anna Mast; sister, Emma Byler; brother, Johnny Mast; and brother-in-law, Amos Otto.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, October 12, 2020 at the Amish Community Building. Burial will follow at the Amish Community Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may pay their respects to Melvin and his family on Sunday, October 11, 2020 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Amish Community Building, 5917 W. Mills Avenue, Hutchinson, KS.
