HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Lynette Krieger-Zook with the Hutchinson NEA spoke to the USD 308 school board Monday night about the upcoming American Education Week that starts November 15.

"This was started right after World War I," Krieger-Zook said. "NEA and the American Legion realized that a lot of their soldiers were illiterate and not physically fit. They worked together and now join with 13 other organizations to support American Education Week to look at the strengths and needs of public education."

There is a new event in USD 308 that will highlight the week.

"USD 308 and the Hutchinson NEA are partnering to kick off the national week of celebration," Krieger-Zook said. "Watch the USD 308 website and social media for ways to celebrate. The highlight of the week is Educator For A Day, where local leaders are invited to shadow a principal and then share together, over lunch, their experience in the public school setting."

The Educator For A Day event is Thursday, November 18, 2021 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
