HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The No. 15-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team dropped its first game of the season on Tuesday evening at the Sports Arena, 79-75 to DII No. 22-ranked Kansas City Kansas Community College.
The Blue Dragons held a 40-34 lead at halftime, but were outscored 45-35 in the second half.
KCK (4-1) opened the first four minutes of the second half on a 14-5 scoring run to go from down six to up three. BJ Stewart and Jeremiah Lewis led the charge for the Blue Devils during the second half comeback. Stewart finished with a game-high 32 points, 16 of which came in the second half. Lewis scored 16, 10 coming in the final 20 minutes.
Hutchinson (3-1) struggled down the stretch with turnovers, committing 18 for the game, while KCK finished with nine.
The Blue Dragons were led by Mikhail Abdul-Hamid with 17 points, knocking down a season-high five three-pointers. Jaquez Thornton had 16 points, followed by Bobby Cannon with 12 and DJ Dudley 10.
HutchCC will travel to Great Bend on Friday for a matchup against Truman State JV. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. from the Kirkman Center on the campus of Barton Community College.
