Mary Ann Schrag, 75, died peacefully January 11, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita, with her family by her side. She was born May 2, 1946, in Sterling, to John L. and Anna R. (Miller) Ricker.
Mary Ann graduated from Alden High School, and received her nursing degree from Hutchinson Community Junior College. She worked as a registered nurse and case auditor for Hutchinson Hospital, retiring in 2009, with 40+ years of service. Mary Ann also mentored many students wanting to become nurses by teaching nursing classes at Grace Hospital. She loved traveling, her flowers (especially African violets), playing in the bell choir, and her women’s circle group that met every Tuesday at the church. Above all, Mary Ann loved her family and her Lord. She was a faithful member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Hutchinson.
On August 2, 1968, she married Robert G. “Bob” Schrag, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Ellinwood. He died November 4, 2021, after sharing over 53 years of marriage.
Mary Ann is survived by: children, Scott Schrag (Holly) of Halstead, and Paula Schrag, El Dorado; grandchildren, Katie Schrag, Bobby Schrag, Jarett Legleiter, and Austin Barnhart; brothers-in-law, the Reverend Robert Nestler of Topeka and Clifford Dick of Hutchinson; sisters-in-law, Marlene Barton of Hutchinson, Juanita Schrag of Newton, and Marilyn Schrag of Burrton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; beloved husband, Bob; son, Marcus Todd Schrag; brothers, Leonard, Harold, Alvin, and Franklin; sisters, Betty Nestler and Mildred Domey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 140 E. 30th Avenue, Hutchinson, with Pastor Tim Carey officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday and 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Emanuel Lutheran Church.
