HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Families in Reno County searching for child care now have a new tool designed to simplify the process and connect them with available providers.
The Reno County Child Care Waitlist has been launched as a centralized system aimed at streamlining how families find care and how providers connect with potential clients. Organizers say the goal is to reduce the time and frustration often associated with navigating multiple waitlists across different facilities.
For parents and families, the system allows users to submit their child’s information once and be considered by multiple participating providers. Families can request a specific provider, but other providers with openings may also reach out if they believe they are a good match.
Officials encourage families to include detailed information about their needs, including the child’s age, preferred schedule, and any specific program requirements. A separate submission is required for each child.
Child care providers in Reno County can participate in the system at no cost. By joining the waitlist network, providers gain access to a pool of families actively seeking care and can contact those who may be a good fit for their services.
Organizers note that providers offer a wide range of options, including varying hours, age groups, and program types such as those participating in Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) or food assistance programs. Even if a family’s needs do not perfectly align with a provider’s standard offerings, many are willing to work with families to find solutions.
The waitlist is now open, and families and providers can sign up online. Questions about the program can be directed to renocountychildcare@gmail.com.
