HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Repairs to a failed storm pipe beneath 30th Avenue are progressing, with the roadway expected to reopen Wednesday, Sept. 9.
The City of Hutchinson said crews have completed the excavation and removal of the damaged pipe. Installation of the replacement pipe and backfilling of the excavation were expected to be finished by the end of Tuesday.
Work during the remainder of the week will focus on restoring the street, curb and gutter, and sidewalk. The project will include concrete and pavement work.
City officials said the reopening date accounts for the time needed for the new concrete to cure.
Both directions of 30th Avenue between Apple Lane and K-61 Highway remain closed. Traffic is being detoured south to 17th Avenue.
The westbound lanes were initially closed Aug. 20 after the storm pipe failed and created a potential risk of roadway collapse. The closure was later expanded to include eastbound traffic to protect motorists and construction crews.
