Two arrested after Kwik Shop robberies in Hutchinson Sunday

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Two people are in custody after armed robberies at the Kwik Shops at 17th and Monroe and at 43rd and Plum in Hutchinson Sunday morning.

According to a release from Hutchinson Police Lt. Dustin Loepp, employees reported that a black male came into the 17th and Monroe store just after 5 a.m. armed with an ice scraper and demanded money and tobacco products from the clerk. The man then took tobacco products but no money and left the store.

The second call was just before 6:15 a.m. and they said the suspect was armed with a folding saw and was swinging it around in the direction of the clerk and demanded money and tobacco products. The suspect got both money and tobacco products from the 43rd and Plum incident. That suspect was described as a black male. Officers were told that the suspect was walking eastbound on 43rd.

Officers found a black male just outside a grey 2013 Ford Fusion in the 4200 block of Charleston Street. While police were talking with the black male, a white male was in the driver's seat of the car. Evidence associated with the robberies was found in the car.

Around 7:30 a.m. a man who lives on East 7th reported his Ford Fusion stolen.

As a result of the investigation, 20-year-old Kevon Ford of 212 East 5th was charged with Aggravated Robbery in connection to 1701 N Monroe and Aggravated Robbery and Aggravated Assault in connection to 4216 N Plum.

Twenty-one-year-old Trevor McDade of 628 E Ave F was charged with Aggravated Robbery in connection to 1701 N Monroe and Aggravated robbery in connection to 4216 N Plum. In addition, McDade was also charged with Aggravated Burglary and Felony theft in connection with the theft of the grey 2013 Ford Fusion from 725 E 7th Ave.
