HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County Sheriff Darrian Campbell reminds residents to plan ahead for 4th of July celebrations this weekend and get a designated driver if you choose to consume adult beverages. It's also important to note that if you have any other complaints and a member of the department is dispatched, it could take awhile.

"The county is made up of 1257 square miles," Sheriff Campbell said. "When someone reports or calls in on a neighbor, a noise complaint or something like that, just be patient, it's going to take us a minute to get out there, but we do respond."

Fires are typically handled by the local fire district.

"If there's a fire, of course the fire department responds," Campbell said.

Sale and discharge of fireworks is legal in Reno County from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. now through July 4.
