The Hutchinson Sand Hills Event Center will be hopping with activity on Saturday, December 6 when Buhler Mennonite Church and Ideatek will again be hosting a 50,0000 meal packaging event.  Each year, for the last decade, a vast variety of area businesses, 4-H & FFA chapters, youth/church groups, school groups, families, and service minded individuals have teamed together to help BMC and Ideatek package thousands of meals in two morning shifts.  "There is a job for all ages--7 to 167--years of age," shared an organizer, "Job orientation is provided and no previous experience is needed. What a great way to give of your time during the Holiday season!"

The event relies on facilitation by the Outreach Program. The supplies for each meal cost roughly $0.35/meal and provide shelf stable protein, essential nutrients and vitamins. Each meal is easy to prepare, only requiring boiling water.  This year the meals will be a Minestrone Soup mix designated for local food banks. The packaging process is an assembly line that allows for quick learning and fun conversation while fighting local food insecurity.  Two shifts of ninety volunteers each can easily package 50,000 meals in a span of four hours.

There is still room for more volunteers to sign up in either or both shifts. To join the work, sign-up at this link, or email: [email protected]The sign-up can also be accessed with the QR code in the image above.

Donations for the meal supplies are also welcome.  Go to www.buhlerchurch.com or use the QR code in the image above.  Checks can be payable to Buhler Mennonite Church with "50,000 Meals" in the memo.
