🏀 Salthawks rally to sweep Salina South; Class 5A sub-state brackets set

SALINA, Kan. - Both Hutchinson High basketball teams found that they had to rally past Salina South teams on Friday night at Salina South High, but both were successful coming away with wins.

Hutch High Girls pulled away late for a 44-35 victory. The Hutch High boys had to hang on to get a 50-47 win.

Girls recap-

Playing hard fought games on back-to-back nights took its toll on the Salthawks but senior Kaia Smith stepped up to knock down her third 3 point basket on the night give Hutch a lead of five late in the contest to give the Salthawks the win.  Senior Grace Posh then added four free throws to top off the win 44 to 35. Ava Krone and Kohlbie Craft each scored eight.

Salina South's Brooklyn Jorden led the Cougars with 13 points

Hutch (14-6) will now host Andover Central (13-7) on Tuesday night March 4th at 7pm at the Salthawk Activity Center in Hutchinson. The Salthawks are the #8 seed in class 5A West in the Hays sub-state. #1 Hays (20-0) will host #16 Great Bend (6-14). Winner's of Tuesday night's games will advance to the the higher seed home court on Friday, March 7th.

Boys recap-

Hutch High  trailed by four 36-32 but rallied late for a slim 50 to 47 win over the Cougars. The Salthawks scored 18 points in the final quarter led by Terrell King scoring nine of his 18 points to will the Salthawks to the win. Lamar Govain added 14 including 8 points in the third quarter. Taishaun Govain had 11 plus several big-time rebounds late to get the win.

Salina South's Sawyer Walker led the Cougars with 17 including four 3 point baskets. 

Hutch High (10-10) will now be the #11 seed in Class 5A West and will travel to #6 Hays (12-8) on Wednesday, March 5th at 6pm. #3 Andover (17-2) will host #14 Salina Central (8-12) in the other sub-state bracket. Winner's of Wednesday night's games will advance to the the higher seed home court on Saturday, March 8th.
