Ronald “Ron” Lyn Freeman, 77, passed away Monday, March 14, 2022. He was born June 24, 1944 in Medicine Lodge to Archie Levi and Ruby Inez (Hart) Freeman.
Ron attended Sun City Schools and graduated in 1962. On September 20, 1963, Ron married Donna Harrison in Medicine Lodge. From that union, 3 children were born, Chris, Ricky and LaRona. They were divorced in 1984.
After high school, he went directly into the work force and eventually settled into a job in Winfield, working at the local Coop where he advanced to the assistant Manager position. After 12 years, he moved the family to Mullinville, where he became the manager of the Mullinville Equity Exchange. He worked there for 18 years before taking early retirement at the age of 55 to enjoy other interests. One of those interests lead him to become a Kiowa County Commissioner and he held that office for 12 years.
Although Ron’s favorite sport was basketball, his pitching skills on the baseball field lead him to be scouted by the St. Louis Cardinals.
Ron obtained his pilot’s license and loved to fly. His love for motorcycles allowed him to enjoy many adventures such as riding to all 105 Kansas county Courthouses and riding to Alaska. After his riding days slowed, Ron could be found at his second home which was any number of casinos in the area. He loved to gamble, usually playing Mississippi Stud, and luck found him many times. He was always known for bring the lottery tickets to family events and spreading the possible “wealth”.
Ron enjoy traveling with many friends and his long-time companion, Jeanne Carson. Their trips took them from coast to coast, into Mexico and Canada and a trip to Alaska.
Ron is survived by his Sons; Chris (Tammy) Freeman of Wichita and Ricky (D.J.) Freeman of Gossel; Daughter LaRona “Ronni” (Darrin) Smith of Pratt; Brother, Terry (Gretchen) Freeman of Colwich; Grandchildren; Abigail Lloyd of Manhattan; Luke Freeman of Hutchinson; Adison Welch of Colby; Garret (Layne) Smith and Great-Granddaughter, Sayler of Great Bend.
Ron is preceeded in death by his parents; Two Brothers, Claude Freeman and Marion Lee “Toby” Freeman and Longtime companion, Jeanne Carson.
Visitation will be Friday 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM at Larrison Mortuary, Pratt. Funeral Service and burial will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Hillcrest Cemetery, Mullinville.
