HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The underground light display at STRATACA is something that started in the pandemic, but they are hoping will become an annual tradition for families.

"We started putting up Christmas lights last Christmas season," said board member Betty Taylor. "It went over really well. It's the end of the dark ride that everybody gets to participate in. This year, we expanded the area. We have twice as many lights."

That's over 50,000 lights 650 feet underground as part of the salt museum.

"It only takes 90 seconds in the hoist to get underground," Taylor said. "It's a really easy trip. You do the dark ride on a tram. You're driven through the lights. It's not as large as some park displays, but we're pretty proud of it, really."

The display will be available to see during the museum's operating hours between now and January 9. Go to underkansas.org to buy tickets online.
