BUHLER, Kan. — Buhler Police Chief John F. Brislin has submitted his resignation after leading the department through a period of transition.
The resignation will take effect Oct. 1, according to a statement from Mayor Ryan Wray.
Brislin became chief following the termination of the city’s previous police chief. During his tenure, Brislin updated department policies, identified equipment and software needs and managed active cases.
The city also hired three part-time officers from the Reno County Sheriff’s Office to help maintain police coverage while reducing costs. Buhler resident David Mathes is attending the law enforcement academy and is expected to graduate Oct. 2.
Brislin will work with department personnel over the next two weeks to provide an orderly operational transition.
“On behalf of the City of Buhler, I want to thank John for stepping forward during a difficult and unexpected period of transition,” Wray said. “He accepted this responsibility when our community needed leadership and worked hard to keep the department moving forward.”
Wray said the city is actively working to maintain uninterrupted law enforcement coverage while considering the police department’s future leadership.
“Transitions can bring uncertainty, but our residents can be assured that the City is committed to making thoughtful decisions, supporting our officers, and maintaining dependable police services,” Wray said.
