Derby wins a pair in Hutchinson Monday

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Derby Panthers came to the Salthawk Activity Center and came away with a pair of wins Monday night.

The second quarter was the big one in the girls' contest, as Derby outscored Hutch 16-0 in the second frame en route to a 53-27 win.

The Panther girls were led by super sophomore Addy Brown with 24 points, Derryana Cobbins added 11 for Derby. Hutchinson's Ziya Simms had 12 in the loss for the Salthawk girls.

In the boys' game, it went down to the wire, with Hutchinson within three late, before Derby finished the night with big free throws and Hutchinson wasn't able to make the most of its opportunities under the basket in a 63-57 loss.

Derby had four in double figures, led by junior Jameer Clemons with 15, Fontaine Williams had 14, Kole Barger added 12 and Amari Thomas added 11. Hutchinson was led by Myles Thompson with 19, Garrett Robertson had 13 before fouling out late, Treyton Peterson had 12.

The Salthawks are back on the hardwood Tuesday night at Campus in Haysville.
