McPHERSON — A sprinkler system extinguished a small fire inside the McPherson Walmart before firefighters arrived Saturday evening.
The McPherson Fire Department was dispatched at 7:13 p.m. Aug. 29 to the store at 205 S. Centennial Drive after receiving a report of a structure fire. Initial reports indicated the fire was inside an office in the rear stock area.
Firefighters entered through the back of the store and found minor fire damage inside the office. One sprinkler head had activated and extinguished the flames.
Crews confirmed the fire was out and stopped the sprinkler’s water flow. Fire damage was limited to the immediate office area, although water covered portions of the stockroom floor.
The department responded with a ladder truck, an engine, two command vehicles and nine personnel. The McPherson Police Department, McPherson County Sheriff’s Office and McPherson EMS also responded.
No injuries were reported.
The cause remains under investigation, but authorities said no foul play is suspected.
