🎳Salthawks compete on home lanes at 5A regional

HUTCHINSON — A trip to the Class 5A State Tournament was up for grabs Tuesday at The Alley, where some of the state’s top bowling programs squared off in regional competition.

Andover Central’s boys and Eisenhower’s girls stood atop the team standings, while host Hutchinson saw its season come to an end despite several competitive individual performances.

Three boys teams and three girls teams advanced to state, along with the top individual finishers not on qualifying teams.

On the boys side, Andover Central won the regional championship with a 3,345 total, followed by Bishop Carroll at 3,264 and Goddard at 3,149. Hutchinson placed 10th with a 2,517 final score.

Andover Central senior Colin Light led all bowlers with a 670 series, rolling games of 259, 217 and 194. Teammate Evan Light added a 654 series, while Paxton McLeod and Gunnar Whitney each finished at 613 to help the Jaguars separate from the field during individual play and extend their lead in Baker competition.

Bishop Carroll freshman Ryan Pfeifer also shot 654, highlighted by a 258 in his final game. Jesus Lucero posted a 645 series and Ambrose Suter-Doeden added a 621 as the Golden Eagles secured the runner-up finish and a state berth.

Goddard was paced by Eric Sather’s 652 and Keagan Aldrich’s 610.

Hutchinson’s top finisher was senior Cooper Oller, who rolled a 511 series with games of 158, 190 and 163. Teagan England added a 498, and Connor Weidman had a 490. The Salthawks totaled 1,960 in individual play and added a 557 Baker score.

The six individual state qualifiers not on advancing teams were Carson Baskerville of Maize South (617), Josh Manning of Great Bend (584), Lewis Schnedier of Eisenhower (583), Will Winkelbauer of Maize South (566), Daegan Miller of Great Bend (548) and Cory Holzman of Kapaun Mt. Carmel (544).

In the girls action, Eisenhower captured the team title with a 2,750 total. Maize South was second at 2,581 and Bishop Carroll third at 2,521. Hutchinson finished sixth at 2,372.

Faith Pelz (Holmes) of Eisenhower earned the individual regional championship with a 622 series, including a 266 in Game 2. Jordyn Betschart added a 581 as Eisenhower built its advantage.

Maize South was led by MacKenzie Gassman’s 568 series, while Bishop Carroll placed five bowlers inside the top 15, paced by Yessinaia Navarrete at 488 and Meredith Seay at 472.

Hutchinson’s Arya Byard rolled a 487 series to finish among the top individual qualifiers not on a state-qualifying team. Allison Jefferson added a 466, and Elena Weese posted a 426 as the Salthawks compiled a 1,771 individual total and 601 in Baker play.

Other individual state qualifiers not on advancing teams were Addison Crumley of Andover Central (521), Loucinda Meade of Hays (516), Ava Black of Valley Center (498), Zoey Mayberry of Great Bend (495) and Brooklynn Mayberry of Great Bend (474).

The Class 5A State Tournament will be held next week in Wichita at Bowlero Northrock.
