
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals acquired right-handed reliever Nolan Hoffman from the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday in exchange for right-hander Manuel Colón.
Hoffman, who turns 29 on Sunday, had a 3.86 ERA in three relief appearances for Philadelphia this season. He spent most of the year with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, going 1-4 with a 4.72 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 34 1/3 innings.
Hoffman made his major league debut last season and has also pitched in the Mariners, Orioles and Rangers organizations.
Colón, 19, went 2-1 with a 5.83 ERA in 22 appearances between the Arizona Complex League and Class A Columbia this season.
Kansas City transferred right-hander Connor Seabold to the 60-day injured list to clear a spot on the 40-man roster.
