Evelyn Irene Burbank Leak passed from this life at the age of 101, on October 20, 2021, in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She and her husband Charley were life-long residents of Pratt County, until they moved to Stillwater in 2013 to be close to their daughter, Barbara Brock.
Her husband of 75 years, Charley G. Leak, preceded her in death, Evelyn was also preceded in death by her parents Ray and Alice Burbank, one brother, Roy Burbank and one sister, Lila Mae Burbank Smith.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Taylor and husband James of Leakey, Texas, and Barbara Brock and husband Pat of Stillwater, Oklahoma; three grandsons, Brian Taylor and wife Viki of San Antonio, Texas, Jeff Koeninger and wife Stephanie of Keller, Texas, and Jason Koeninger and wife Shannon of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Six great grandchildren, Amy Taylor of Dallas, Texas and Austin Taylor of Ft. Worth, Texas, Jake and Cole Koeninger of Keller, and Quentin and Violet Koeninger of Tulsa also survive her, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was born in Pratt on April 17, 1920, to Roy and Alice Harrell Burbank. She graduated from Pratt High School and worked at Penney’s Department Store in Pratt before and for a short time after her marriage to Charley on August 27, 1939. She was office manager and bookkeeper for Doskocil’s from 1957 to 1974. Following her work in town, Evelyn helped Charley with farming until he retired in 1998. They built a house and moved from the farm into Pratt in the spring of 1984.
She was an active member of the Pratt Church of Christ, serving in many roles, including the Clothing Room and providing meals for funerals and the sick. Evelyn and Charley delivered “Meals on Wheels” for many years. She and Charley enjoyed traveling with their RV and spent many winters in South Texas.
During her years at the Christian Villa in Stillwater, she was known for sending birthday cards, encouragement, and sympathy cards to the residents of the Villa and to the many friends she made at church. She always sent birthday cards to family members, including grandsons and spouses, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Thursday, October 28, 2021 at the Church of Christ Pratt. Pastor John Hamm officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
There will be no Visitation.
