Alice Lucille Mertens Jacobs, 87, died May 21, 2021 at Newton.
She was born March 12, 1934, at Willowdale, Kansas the daughter of Leo and Lucille Miller Mertens. A longtime resident of the Kingman and Murdock communities, she was a homemaker, and custodian and cook for the Murdock Grade School.
Alice was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church, the St. Louis Altar Society and the St. Louis Quilting Group, all of Waterloo.
On Oct. 18, 1955, she married Oscar Julius Jacobs at Willowdale; he died May 9, 2021. Survivors include sons Dan, David (Linda) and Dean; daughters Donna (Tom) Ratzlaff, Debra Lorg, Dianne Taber, Denise (Greg) Baker, Darlene Jacobs and Doris Boroughs; brothers Leo, Leroy, Donald, Ronald “Gene”, and Marvin Mertens; sisters Pauline Jacobs, Helen Meyers, Karen Lubbers; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by brothers Edwin, Lawrence and John Mertens; sisters Dorothy Swartz and Rosella Henning; and granddaughter Nicole Marie Beat.
Parish rosary will be 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kingman. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 26, also at the St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will be in the St. Louis Cemetery, Waterloo.
