
Eugene Samples, 92, of Hutchinson, died June 14, 2020, at his home. He was born August 13, 1927, in Weaubleau, Missouri, to Walter and Ruth (Lindsey) Samples.
Eugene graduated from Plattsburg High in Missouri, in 1945, and Chillicothe Business College in 1947. He served in the United States Navy during the Second World War. Eugene worked for Wyeth Hardware and Manufacturing Company in Missouri, selling wholesale hardware. He was a member of Junction City Union Masonic Lodge #7 A.F. & A.M. and Stafford American Legion Post #290. Eugene was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Hutchinson.
On June 3, 1951, he married Connie Stitt, in Herington. They shared 69 years of marriage together.
Eugene is survived by wife, Connie Samples, Hutchinson; son, James (Paula) Samples, Wichita; daughter, Jo Dee Samples, Hutchinson; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Samples, St. John; sister, Martha Outler, Metairie, Louisiana; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Davis Samples; and great-granddaughter, Raven Samples.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2020, at Elliott Mortuary, with Pastor Larry Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
