HUTCHINSON, Kan. — One of the issues that has popped up during discussion between the NAACP and Hutchinson police in building better relations is the lack of relationships with youth.
The Hutchinson NAACP Youth saw a need for events where youth can build relationships with and express their concerns with HPD in a relaxed environment.
So, they will be hosting what they are calling the Bridgebuilders Barbecue. The event is being held with the College Youth division of the NAACP, Hutch in Harmony, HPD and the City of Hutchinson all hosting. The event will be held on June 26 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Rice Park.
HPD expressed hope that the event can be a springboard for the creation of a youth advisory group for the department. All will happen around activities and delicious barbecue.
