Marjorie Alice (Rowland) Ensz, 87, died surrounded by family, June 8, 2020, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born March 29, 1933, in Hutchinson, the daughter of William V. and Wilma A. (Roberson) Rowland. Her faith, family and friends were vitally important to her and she never knew a stranger.

Marjorie graduated from Buhler High School in 1951, always joining clubs and was one of the leaders in her class. She received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Sterling College. Marjorie then continued her education, achieving her master’s degree in elementary education and also certification as a reading specialist, both from Wichita State University. Marjorie’s love of learning carried over into her classroom, sharing fun and unique ways of learning to her students.

Marjorie’s teaching career spanned 35 ½ years, starting at Putnam CXVI in Stafford County and then on to Prosperity, Union Valley, and finishing at Obee Grade School in Buhler USD 313.  She was a lifelong KNEA member and was nominated by Buhler USD 313 teachers for the Kansas Master Teacher Award in 1983.

Marjorie was an active member of Community Church of the Brethren, Hutchinson, where she served as a deacon, Sunday school and Bible school teacher and took turns acting as the director of both.  She was always willing to share her time and God-given talents in many areas of her church life.

Marjorie married Clarence W. Ensz June 6, 1954, on a HOT summer day in Stafford. They shared 66 years of marriage, raising three children and carving out a farm in the sand hills east of Hutchinson. Marjorie particularly enjoyed family times camping and traveling in God’s beautiful world. She loved taking pictures, reading a good book during quiet times, and listening to many kinds of music. Her caring heart, generous nature, and ready smile will be missed.

Clarence survives. Also surviving are daughter, Valerie Hornbaker (Paul, Hutchinson; sons, Rex Ensz (Jacqueline, Mount Hope, Wes Ensz (Kim, Buhler; grandsons, Isaac Ensz, Brad Ensz, Aaron Ensz; sister, Emilie Dell, McPherson; brothers, Charles Rowland, Bay City, TX, Clyde Rowland (Jean, Howard Rowland, all of Hutchinson; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Brandon Hornbaker; and sister, Ruth Hoffman.

Family graveside service will be 9 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2020, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Community Church of the Brethren, 1600 N. Severance St., with Pastor Judson Hornbaker officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. The service will be video-recorded and uploaded to her obituary on Elliott Mortuary’s website.
