Alan Waggoner, passed away June 2, 2020, on his 75th birthday, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, after a courageous two and a half year battle with breast cancer. He was born June 2, 1945,  in Hutchinson, to Richard and Bertha May (Mitchell) Waggoner.

After graduating from Hutchinson High School, Alan enlisted in the National Guard. In 1966, he married Lanora Tonn of Sylvia, Kansas.

In 1963, Alan began a 44-year career with Dillons Grocers as a warehouseman and member of Teamster’s Local 795.  

He and Lanora raised two daughters, Tammy and Kerri. Alan coached the girls in softball and played competitive softball as well, while making many life-long friends along the way. While family was always his first priority, he always had a passion for classic cars and was well known for his immaculately restored 1950 Chevrolet pickup, which won many car show awards. Alan’s hobby business, Shine Like Mine, was a mainstay at the Kansas State Fair for almost 20 years. He was also a member of the Hutchinson Car Club.

In retirement, Alan contributed thousands of hours in volunteer service for the Salt Museum, Kansas State Fair, Volunteer Corps, Dillon Nature Center, and the City of Hutchinson. He also delivered flowers in his spare time for “his girls” at Absolutely Flowers.

Alan was the proudest grandpa in the stands at many of his three grandsons’ sporting events and instilled in them great respect for family.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Lanora, Hutchinson; daughters, Tammy Miller (Bill, DeSoto, and Kerri Page, Olathe; three grandsons, Christian Page, Jackson Miller, and Carson Milller; sister, Ginger Osgood, Hutchinson, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Bertha May Waggoner; brother,  Jim Waggoner;  and sister, Diana Waggoner.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2020, at Elliott Mortuary, with Pastor Bob Phipps officiating. Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Visitation with the family present will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2020, at Elliott Mortuary.
