Hutch Rec updates summer youth sports in response to Modified Phase 2 announcement

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The following Hutch Rec summer youth sports have been updated in response to Governor Laura Kelly’s announcement on moving the State of Kansas to a Modified Phase 2, starting May 22. Please note dates are subject to change per any new COVID-19 guidelines and/or executive orders from local and state government officials.

Youth Summer Sports Leagues – Recreation

Youth summer recreation leagues include: t-ball (3-6 yr olds); softball (8U, 10U, 12U, 14U); and baseball (8U, 10U, 12U).

Registrations for these leagues are closed.

Under the Modified Phase 2, coaches may hold practices starting May 22. Coaches may start reserving practice times and fields on May 20 at Hutch Rec Downtown, 17 E. 1st, or by calling (620) 663-6179.

Recreation League Coaches Meeting: May 26 at Fun Valley Sports Complex on the Upper Deck, practicing safe social distancing. T-Ball will meet at 5:30 p.m.; Softball will meet at 6 p.m.; Baseball will meet at 6:30 p.m. During this meeting, Hutch Rec staff will discuss any additional updates and precautions being taken in response to COVID-19, as well as hand out equipment and team rosters. Coaches will have the ability to sign up for practice times during this meeting.

T-ball games will start the week of June 1. Softball and baseball league games will start the week of June 8.

Youth Competitive Sports Leagues (CKBL & CKFPL)

Under the Modified Phase 2, coaches may hold practices starting May 22. Coaches may start reserving practice times and fields on May 20 at Hutch Rec Downtown, 17 E. 1st, or by calling (620) 663-6179.

Hutch Rec will proceed with the Coaches Meeting for all Central Kansas Baseball and Central Kansas Fast Pitch League coaches. This meeting is scheduled for May 20 and held at the Fun Valley Sports Complex on the Upper Deck. Softball coaches will meet at 6 p.m.; baseball coaches will meet at 7 p.m. During this meeting, Hutch Rec staff will discuss any additional updates, a tentative league timeline, as well as precautions being taken in response to COVID-19.

The pre-season tournament scheduled for May 30 has been postponed. Coaches will discuss tournament options at their meeting on May 20.

May Third Thursday

Outdoor fitness activities scheduled for May Third Thursday are canceled.

Salt City Splash & Buhler Pool

Staff at both Salt City Splash Aquatic Center and the Buhler Pool are actively preparing for opening day when allowed.

The announcement of opening day will be released on hutchrec.com, the Salt City Splash and Buhler Pool Facebook pages, as well as through media outlets.

Swim lessons at this time are on as scheduled for both facilities. Register online at hutchrec.com or in person at Hutch Rec Downtown, 17 E. 1st.

Season passes are on sale for both facilities at hutchrec.com.

Hutchinson Sports Arena – north gyms

Re-opening of the north gyms remains on hold at this time. This includes: community walking, fitness classes, and open gym time for pickleball.

Summer Adventure Camp at Dillon Nature Center

Session 1 (June 1-5) and Session 2 (June 8-12) are canceled.

Summer Adventure Camp will now be four week-long sessions, starting the week of June 15. All sessions are open to students who have finished kindergarten through 6th grades, and spots are limited. Visit dillonnaturecenter.com for more information and to download camp registration forms.

Sand Plum Bicycle Classic

At this time, the Sand Plum Bicycle Classic ride is still on as scheduled for June 7. Visit hutchrec.com for registration details.

Stay to Play summer day camp

At this time, Stay to Play summer day camp is on hold.

Senior Center at Elmdale Park

The curbside carryout lunch program continues on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Senior Center members may call to reserve their lunch at (620) 663-2811. Details and the May menu are available on the Senior Center web page at hutchrec.com.

The Senior Center at Elmdale Park (400 E. Ave. E) will remain closed through the month of May. This includes activities taking place at the Center and group travel.

Hutch Rec Downtown (17 E. 1st) remains open to the public for in-person registrations and customer inquiries. Business hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Staff are limiting the number of customers in the lobby area at one time. No more than two customers will be allowed in the lobby to ensure the practice of safe social distancing guidelines. Customers also have the option to register for activities online at hutchrec.com.

Dillon Nature Center (3002 E. 30th Ave) will also open its Visitor’s Center starting Monday, May 18 with the business hours of 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Staff will be available to take in-person registration for summer activities. The exhibit portion of the Visitor’s Center remains closed until further notice.
