HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson City Council will hold its first meeting with new City Manager Jeff Cantrell. Cantrell took over the duties formerly held by John Deardoff on Friday.

The council will be asked to take action on a runway maintenance project for the airport at a cost of $587,671. Vance Brothers Inc. was the low bidder. The project was going to be funded with a 90/10 match from the FAA, but the Federal Government will now pay the entire 100% of the project under the CARES Act.

The project includes a complete resealing and restriping of the main runway at the airport. The project is expected to begin in late summer or early fall of this year.

Also Tuesday, the council will consider an action plan for housing rehab funds. Earlier this year the city was awarded $265,500 in community development block grants for housing rehab projects. The funds will help rehab 10 properties in the Creekside neighborhood in an area from 6th to 8th avenues and between Main and Adams streets.

Tuesday’s meeting of the Hutchinson City Council begins at 9 a.m. at the Hutchinson city offices.
