SOUTH HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The matter of wind farms in Reno County will come off the back burner and into the hands of the Reno County Planning Commission during a meeting set for next week.
After canceling meetings for the past two months because of the pandemic, the Planning Commission will meet in person. The commission is expected to consider an order for amending commercial wind energy and energy conversion system regulations. There will be no public comment on the matter during the meeting.
The county has been in the middle of a struggle regarding the NextEra wind farm proposal that has been on hold ever since the County Commission failed to get a unanimous vote to allow a conditional use permit for the proposed complex in the southern part of the county.
NextEra’s challenge to the petitions opposing the project is still making its way through the court system.
Next Thursday’s meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. at the Reno County Public Works facility at 600 Scott Blvd. in South Hutchinson.
