Howard Roland Northcutt

Howard Roland Northcutt, 69, of Hays, Kansas and formerly of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away at his residence in Hays.

Roland was born June 7, 1950 in Vincent, Alabama.  He was one of eight children born to Ras Howard and Ruthie Thelma (Abbott) Northcutt.  He grew up in Vincent and graduated from Vincent High School.  He then attended a Welding Trade School.

Roland traveled around the country working as a Pipefitter and Welder most of his life.  He worked for S & R Steel in Harpersville, Alabama and Hondai also in Alabama.  While living in Hutchinson, he worked for Space Works and was one of the members who built the Apollo 13 Capsule for the movie. 

He was a member of the Southern Baptist Church in Vincent and the Crestwell Baptist Church in Crestwell, Alabama.  He enjoyed fishing, playing the guitar, reading western novels, and watching the Three Stooges.

His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.

Roland’s surviving family include two daughters, Cassandra Downing (Daniel) of Hutchinson, Kansas and Manika Dawn Hand of Florida; four sons, Ras Solon Northcutt (Katie) of Russell, Kansas, Jeremy Northcutt (Peyton) of Albert, Kansas, Howard Roland Northcutt, II of Russell, Kansas and Alan Christopher Northcutt of Polk City, Florida; and thirteen grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Leslie Jo Northcut, three brothers and four sisters.

The family has requested cremation.  They will hold a Memorial Service in Vincent, Alabama at a later date.  Condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
